Valerie Piraino is a visual artist working in sculpture, installation, and drawing.  She looks to her transnational background as a point of departure to create more diverse notions of identity.  

Valerie Piraino grew up between Sub-Saharan African and the United States.  This laid the foundation for her creative life.  Her various bodies of work explore the Rwandan genocide, familial history and memory, archival practices, and transnational identity. She lives and works in New York City.
